Node.js plans November 11 security releases: prepare the running environments
Advance notice dated November 3 · originals and support schedule checked November 5 JST
Summary
Node.js plans security releases for 26.x, 24.x and 22.x on November 11 or shortly after. The advance notice gives operators time to map environments, support status and evidence of later application.
Service operators can use the advance notice to identify where Node.js runs and who will update it. The Node.js project plans security releases for the 26.x, 24.x and 22.x lines on November 11 or shortly afterward. The announcement is a release plan, rather than an already delivered fix.
Key facts
The notice dated November 3 assigns a highest severity of HIGH to each of the three lines. When checked at 06:02 JST on November 5, it did not supply individual vulnerability identifiers, attack mechanisms or fixed version numbers. It does not establish an intrusion path or actual exploitation of these issues. Node.js security release notice
Operators can prepare a record of the running version, support status, provider schedule and person responsible for reporting the result. The announced date alone will not establish that a service received the update.

1. Running JavaScript outside the browser
JavaScript is a programming language used for actions such as buttons and other behavior on webpages. Node.js lets programs written in that language run outside the browser, including website servers and file-processing automation. A person who only opens a browser may still depend on a service powered by Node.js. Node.js introduction
There may be more than one environment to inventory. In the fictional booking service below, the customer-facing server and the job generating confirmation documents run separately. This is an explanatory example, not an inspection of a real service.
| Job in a fictional booking service | Who manages the environment | Record to obtain |
|---|---|---|
| Receive requests and save bookings | Web-service operator | Server Node.js version and deployment method |
| Generate confirmations on a schedule | Automation operator | Job environment and responsible person |
| Build deployment files on a developer's PC | Development team | Build-environment version and replacement plan |

- The researcher
What should I ask if a hosting company manages the site?
Pocket NotebookAsk whether the environment handling your service's requests uses Node.js, which line it uses, and who applies security releases. If you receive only a developer-PC version, also request the service-side record. The environment that builds files can differ from the one handling customer requests.
2. A supported line still needs its security update
The first version number identifies a major release line. Writing 22.x groups the detailed releases within line 22. LTS means long-term support; a maintenance phase concentrates on security and important bug fixes. The official schedule places 22 and 24 in maintenance LTS, and 26 in active LTS. Node.js release schedule
A line omitted because its support ended should not be read as safe. For example, official support for line 20 ended on April 30, 2026. The project warns that end-of-life versions are affected when security releases occur and recommends an up-to-date supported version. A provider offering separate extended support needs to supply the relevant contract scope and package evidence.
| Answer received | Next preparation | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Uses 22.x, 24.x or 26.x | Record detailed version and update owner | That the forthcoming fix is already installed |
| Uses an end-of-life line | Plan compatibility testing and a supported replacement | That omission from the notice means no exposure |
| Embedded in a product; version unknown | Ask its supplier about impact and remedies | Safety inferred from the product name |

Does using line 22 mean we must move straight to 26?
Pocket NotebookThe notice also plans a security release for line 22. First establish whether the applicable fix can be installed within the supported line, and assess a major upgrade alongside compatibility and support dates. A larger major number alone is not evidence of an applied fix.
3. From the planned date to the serving environment
November 11 is the date in the official notice; it specifies no time zone or exact hour. “Shortly after” is also part of the plan, so it cannot be converted into a promised completion time in Japan or Korea. Once the detailed advisory and releases appear, operators can match them with packages supplied for their service.
The following is a sequence of checks still to be completed. Only the first box describes the state observed now; the later boxes are prospective steps.

What more do I need if the provider says it downloaded the update?
Pocket NotebookAsk which service received it, when it was applied, and which version and build now handle requests. The operator can also record tests of booking storage and scheduled jobs. This is a future-check example; no customer server was inspected or changed for this article.

Preparation that shortens the response
An environment list and a named owner reduce the work of locating update targets after release. The present development is an advance security notice; the actual fixes and application results will come from later advisories and operating records.
