Google announces Gemini tools for small-business visuals and finances
Announced October 20 · official sources rechecked October 21
Summary
Google announced Gemini tools for small businesses on October 20. They remember a shop's style for marketing material and turn its records into financial charts, rolling out globally to all Gemini app users over the coming days.
Someone running a small café makes a weekend poster with AI. Yesterday's came out calm; today's looks like a different shop, so they explain the shop's colors and fonts all over again. The Gemini tools Google announced on October 20 aim to cut that repetition and help with the books too.
Key facts
Google announced a Gemini business landing page and new tools for small businesses on October 20. They cover setting a brand style and producing marketing material that matches it, turning spreadsheets, receipts and purchase records into financial graphics and models, and connecting work apps. The landing page, marketing and finance skills and new connected apps are rolling out globally to all Gemini app users over the coming days. Some accounts may not see them yet.

1. What goes into a brand kit
A brand kit is the set of references, such as the logo, colors, fonts and photo style, that a shop's marketing material draws on every time. It keeps separate pieces looking as if they came from the same shop. Google says that once you set a style by uploading your website, brand kit, fonts or color palettes, Gemini remembers it, so you don't have to upload the guidelines again each time. For an imaginary Woodland Café, the dark green and the plain font stay; only this week's product and the event dates change.
| Keep | Change for each promotion |
|---|---|
| Logo and shop name | The product being featured |
| Main colors and fonts | Price and discount terms |
| Photo style and tone of voice | Dates, period and announcement text |

What about a small shop that doesn't have a brand kit?
Pocket NotebookGoogle's list also includes a website, fonts and color palettes. If the shop has a website, you can start by uploading that.
2. Before you post
The owner's part is to hand over what changed this time, the product and the promotion, and to look over the draft before posting. A request might read: “Make a weekend new-menu announcement in Woodland Café's style, and show the price and dates large.”

Once I've put in the logo and colors, can I leave it alone from then on?
Pocket NotebookGoogle's description goes as far as “remembers the style so you don't re-upload it.” A poster with the wrong price or date can still come out, so look it over once before you post.

What if I keep fixing the same thing?
Pocket NotebookThat's where to look. If you keep fixing colors, revisit the brand materials; if you keep fixing prices, revisit the promotion details in your request.
3. What a chart of the books shows
Google says Gemini can turn messy spreadsheets, receipts and purchase records into clear financial graphics and interactive models. Seen as a chart, it's easier to ask whether sales or costs moved more. Google announcement
| Invented ledger · arbitrary units | Month A | Month B |
|---|---|---|
| Sales | 100 | 120 |
| Costs entered in the table | 70 | 100 |
| Sales minus those costs | 30 | 20 |
Month A
- Sales100
- Included costs70
- Sales minus those costs30
Month B
- Sales120
- Included costs100
- Sales minus those costs20
All bars share one scale. The difference is not established net profit.

- The researcher
Sales went from 100 to 120, so why did the difference shrink?
Pocket NotebookCosts rose more, from 70 to 100. Month A is
100 − 70 = 30; month B is120 − 100 = 20. - The researcher
Can I write down 20 as month B's net profit, then?
Pocket NotebookNot yet. We don't know whether taxes, wages and fees are all in this table, so all we can say is “sales minus the costs entered.”
4. Before you say sales fell
A clean chart still misleads if the inputs don't follow the same rules. There are four things to ask before reading one.
| Ask before reading the chart | Why |
|---|---|
| Do the periods match? | So half a month isn't compared with a full month |
| Are the units the same? | So currencies or scales don't get mixed |
| How were refunds, duplicates and gaps handled? | Preparation changes the totals |
| Can you trace each number to its source? | So you can go from the chart back to the records |
Start with the period. Say month A holds all 30 days of sales, totaling 100, while month B so far holds only 15 days, totaling 60.
| Invented ledger · arbitrary units | Month A | Month B |
|---|---|---|
| Sales entered | 100 | 60 |
| Days included | 30 days | 15 days |
| Average per day | About 3.33 | 4 |
Compare the totals and sales fell 40%. Per day, though, month A is 100 ÷ 30 ≈ 3.33 and month B is 60 ÷ 15 = 4. Nobody knows how B's remaining half-month will go. The point is simple: even with a chart drawn by AI, start by asking what was divided by what, and the first impression won't fool you.

- The researcher
The total fell but the daily average rose. Which one is wrong?
Pocket NotebookNeither. The total is the money that has come in so far, and the daily average takes out the difference in length. Decide first whether the month is over and whether you're comparing the same dates, and you'll know which number to read.
5. Connecting other apps
Google says Gemini can connect to its own tools, such as Google Business Profile, Google Ads and Google Workspace, and to outside apps such as the design tool Canva, the online-store platform Shopify and the accounting software Xero. Google announcement
Even if the shop's details sit in Business Profile, its designs in Canva and its sales records in Shopify, connecting them lets one task draw on all three. What Gemini can read or produce depends on each account's connection screen and permissions.

- The researcher
If I connect Shopify, will Gemini go and edit my product pages too?
Pocket NotebookThe announcement doesn't say so. Read what permissions you're giving Gemini on the connection screen, and do the posting yourself to be safe.

What to take away
Gemini's new tools remember a shop's style for its marketing material and turn scattered records into financial charts. Before posting, look at the price and dates; before trusting a chart, look at the period, units and missing transactions. What Google has announced is a rollout over the coming days, so when the tools show up in your account, and how much time they save with your own records, you'll only find out by using them.
